I really loved being pregnant.
Well, I mostly loved BEING pregnant. I didn’t exactly love the morning sickness, the general fatigue, the swollen ankles, the poor quality of sleep, stretch marks, acid reflux or indigestion.
Essential Oils for Pregnancy
It has often occurred to me that essential oils offer wonderful support for most of the issues that develop during pregnancy, but essential oils and pregnancy always felt like such a controversial topic. Every time I researched safe oils for pregnancy, I would find conflicting information.
I ultimately decided that it was safer to error on the side of caution and advise against using any oils during pregnancy, least they cause any potential problems like stimulating contractions, miscarriage, hormonal imbalances or a detoxification that somehow crosses the placenta and impacts the unborn child. In my effort to avoid any potential harm from essential oils during pregnancy, nursing or on small children, I avoided recommending them for any of those uses.
But I couldn’t help but continue to research the topic, identifying oils to support different symptoms and researching to ensure that the oils in the blend were safe for pregnancy. I would recommend them to close friends and family and see positive results.
One day over lunch with Essential Oils expert, author and the chair of Bastyr University’s Essential Oil program, Jimm Harrison, I noted that there seemed to be a lot of misinformation surrounding essential oils and their usage during pregnancy, nursing and early childhood.
He concurred that the publicly available information seemed to suggest that women avoid oils that actually would be beneficial during pregnancy and utilize some that might be harmful. Jimm has been in the essential oil industry for over 20 years. He reads all the medical journals, hangs with the safety experts like Robert Tisserand and Kurt Schnaubelt and most importantly knows how to interpret and understand the latest research on the topic. At my strong urging, he agreed to help me host a Master Class on Essential Oils for Pregnancy to debunk the myths surrounding essential oils and pregnancy and share the most recent research and information on:
