Where Do I Start with Essential Oils?

by Jodi Cohen

I have been getting a lot of questions lately based around the question “Where do I start with Essential Oils?” and how to best use them, so I wanted to take some time today to address the most common questions I receive.

Where Do I Start with Essential Oils?

We really encourage you to start with the priority to your health.  To help identify your health priorities, we have created this self assessment quiz.

How Often Should I Use Them?

I recommend a minimum a 2 times daily.  If it is hard to remember to use them,  just keep them by your toothbrush and apply when you first wake up and before bed.  Often if you notice that the blends help you, you can carry them in your purse and apply as often as every 20 minutes.

How Do I Use Them?

We recommend smelling them or applying topically, either over a particular organ, on the bottom of the feet or the outside of the ears (never in the ear canal).   Click here for a handy chart with ear application points.  We offer very specific directions to help you apply them, but also encourage you to use your own intuition.  Click here for detailed instructions on applying Body BalanceBrain Balance, Emotion Balance, Symptom Support blends.  Addition resources to help you get started can be found here.

Is It Okay To Use More Than One at Once?

Yes, but as a general rule, I do not recommend applying more than 3 blends at any given time.  Applying too many oils at the same time can be overwhelming and confusing to the body.

How Will I Know If It’s Working?

The wonderful thing about healing is that once we feel better we often forget how awful we felt before.  Take one of our best customers, Andrea, wrote to tell us how grateful she was for our oils bringing her out of a dark period of constant pain, fatigue and brain fog that limited her ability to work, travel and enjoy her children.   When we start to feel better, most of us forget that we once suffered from pain, fatigue or brain fog.  If you are in this state and an oil helps you, you will carry that oil with you everywhere.  As you begin to heal, you may notice that you need the oil less and less.  For example, if you are less anxious or worried.  If you are able to sleep through the night, or enjoy a meal and not feel sick after.

One response to “Where Do I Start with Essential Oils?”

  1. I suffer from Histamine intolerance, placed it around belly button, and behind ears, the first time, and about an hour later I started to feel the burning sensation in my esophagus area.
So I thought maybe sniffing it would be better. Breathing it in caused by bronchial area to feel burning sensation.
This morning I placed it behind ears and on bottom of feet. If I have a burning reaction again in my chest area, I won’t use it again.
