I lost a dear friend last night. He went to sleep and never woke up.
It was so unexpected and almost surreal. I keep wishing, hoping, praying that it is really a prank. But then I remember that he is really gone.
And I think of his wife, one of my closest friends since our babies were small, and his children, so close in age to my own. And I just feel sad. So terribly sad.
I know that death is a natural cycle in the circle of life, but that doesn’t seem to ease the pain when you lose someone you love. I had meant to get a lot done today, but the grief is so overwhelming that I almost felt paralyzed. Learn how I discovered surviving grief with Essential Oils can really work.
Surviving Grief with Essential Oils
So, I decided to try some oils. Lung Support™ for grief, Heart™ for balancing the shock and Rose™ for general joy and uplifting. I rubbed the Lung Support™ over the lungs and the Rose™ and Heart™ over the heart. Within minutes, I felt my body and brain reset. I was able to do the dishes, fold the laundry and even attempt to write this blog post.
My theory on processing grief is similar to my understanding of how an airplane flies from one destination to another. It does not follow a direct path, but instead makes a series of minor corrections as it goes. In processing any kind of intense pain, like grief, you almost have to change the way you look at time – not in long stretches, but short intervals. Not can I make it through the day, but can I make it through the next 10 minutes.
I believe this is how the oils help us process grief. They lift you out of deep sorrow for a short period of time. This allows you to experience and gradually release the grief, helping you literally catch your breath when the grief feels most overwhelming.
I find that it helps lift the heaviness for brief periods, allowing me to process without the intense overbearing pain.
I never realized how physically suffocating grief can feel. I always knew that the emotion of grief was association with the lungs but never personally experienced the physical aspect of it.
As you may know, the lungs are sponge-like organs located near the backbone on either side of the heart. They transport oxygen from the atmosphere into the capillaries so they can oxygenate blood. They also serve as an important channel of elimination, releasing carbon dioxide from the bloodstream into the atmosphere.
When You Are Walking Through Hell, Keep Moving!
Feelings of grief, bereavement, regret, loss, remorse can obstruct ability of the lungs to accept and relinquish, impeding their function of “taking in” and “letting go”. Grief that remains unresolved can become chronic and create disharmony in the lungs, weakening the lung’s function of circulating oxygen around the body. Vibrant Blue Oils Emotion Support Lung Support was designed to help overcome grief and let go of negative experiences. This blend is best applied over the lungs or around the ears.
Rose™ oil helps is known to bring a feeling of love, create a sense of well-being and release past hurts, like grief. It’s benefits were documented in studies that found breathing and blood pressure relaxed after Rose oil was applied to the skin. I like to apply this one over my heart.
Heart™ blend was formulated to balance the heart to support, integrate and reset all the systems of the body, including mental clarity, physical health and emotional balance. The heart is our body’s reset button. By applying Vibrant Blue Oils Heart blend over the heart, it helps return the heart to balance, and strengthen our ability to process difficult emotions like grief.
For additional grief support, you might consider homeopathetic remedies like Bach Flower Essences (especially Rescue Remedy) Ignatia, Arnica and Natrum Miraticum.
