Spleen Support for Transformation

It feels like so many of us are in the midst of personal transformations at this moment – be it a personal transformation involving a change in how we invest our time and energy or a health transformation.

Essential oils – especially oils for your spleen — can help to support your physical, mental or emotional transition.  They help to both release stagnation in the physical body as well as calm worries, ease anxiety and balance and stabilize thoughts and emotions that correspond with shifts and transformations.

How Does Your Spleen Support Transformation?

Your spleen can play an important role in your ability to move easily through transitions and transformations.  According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), your spleen helps to transport and transform the food you eat into nourishment in the form of blood and energy known as qi.  The spleen is believed to be responsible for digesting food and carrying that energy into our cells, along with providing warmth and vitality to the body, providing physical energy for immune function and mental energy for work and creativity.

Your spleen is an organ which sits in the upper left part of your abdomen behind your ribs.  It regulates and filters our blood, impacting the number of red blood cells that carry energy supplying oxygen throughout the body. The spleen is also part of your lymphatic system and a key player in our immune response, detecting pathogens in the blood and producing white blood cells to fight infections.

As blood filters through the spleen, it’s cleaned, and threatening microbes are engulfed and filtered out. Without the spleen working properly, we can’t maintain red and white blood cells we need for ongoing energy which is why low spleen energy can be linked to fatigue.

The Spleen is also thought to house your thoughts and be responsible for analytical thinking, memory, cognition, intelligence, and ideas.  Disharmony in the spleen can amplify the extreme state of these emotions, including over-thinking, worry, excessive mental and intellectual stimulation or any activity that involves a lot of mental effort.

If you “ruminate” and obsess constantly about life experiences, you literally are not “transforming” them into positive fuel to motivate taking action and moving forward in life.

 

Signs that Your Spleen Could Use Support

Signs of weak spleen energy can include:

  • Obsessive worry or “obsessing”
  • Lack of empathy
  • Brain fog throughout the day
  • Fatigue and lethargy
  • Feeling cold.
  • Poor appetite, Nausea or Loose stools
  • Dull stomach pain or spleen tenderness, usually on the upper left side of the abdomen or pain that has spread from the abdomen to the left shoulder
  • Low energy levels, possibly even chronic fatigue
  • Bleeding or bruising easily
  • Easy sweating without exertion
  • Swelling or Inflammation
  • Craving sweets
  • Weak muscles or aches and pains in muscles

Essential Oils for Spleen Support
