Core Temperature
Ever wonder why a cold is called a cold? There is something about colder temperatures that seem to correlate with illness.
Conversely, raising the core temperature in the body seems to help certain types of immune cells to work better. In fact, studies have shown that raising your body by just 2 degrees can increase immunity by 40%.
This is one of the reasons the body naturally spikes a fever to help fight off infection, or warm remedies, like chicken soup or hot tea, are given when we are sick. The heat helps to kill the viruses.
Heating up the body for short periods of time to induce health is called hyperthermia and it is one of the reasons that healing technologies like infrared saunas, biomats and Epsom salt bathes are such effective healing techniques.
This is a key reason why hot essential oils, like those in our immune support blend, are so powerful at fighting illness. The Immune Support™ blend, based off the traditional thieves blend, includes a powerful combination of several hot oils including Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Lemon, Mountain Savory, Nutmeg, Oregano, Rosemary and Thyme. When rubbed on the bottom of the feet, or over the throat, it can help raise our body temperature and help the immune system work better.
Clove oil, like that contained in the Parasympathetic blend has been shown to protect the body against infection and can speed recovery from the flu. Similarly, Thymus™ blend applied over the heart. Applying Peppermint™ or Frankincense™ to the neck and bottoms of the feet can naturally support the immune system.
