Fix Brain Inflammation with Essential Oils

By Jodi Cohen

A blue brain with a blue background.

Chronic inflammation lies at the root of many health concerns, including brain health.  Brain health concerns such as brain fog, memory issues, low brain voltage, anxiety or depression can often be linked to brain inflammation. Essential oils for inflammation can help.

Brain inflammation not only impacts your ability to think easily, relax and feel happy, but also slows down the signal to your muscles so they can’t fire at their full potential.

What Causes Brain Inflammation?

The following factors likely impact you, contributing to inflammation, and lying at the root of brain health concerns:

  1. Chronic stress, Sleep problems or Insomnia
  2. EMF’s (electromagnetic frequencies) from your cell phones, screens, WiFi, and wired homes
  3. Toxicity from your food, water, environment, clothing, cosmestics, dentistry, car, home, and air.
  4. Viruses, bacteria or parasites
  5. Chronic inflammation in the body from leaky gut or other chronic infections, like sinus, or gut infections.
  6. Food allergies or food intolerances, like gluten, which contribute to gut inflammation.
  7. Sugar Consumption, Alcohol or Smoking
  8. Brain Injury or Concussion, which causes the brain’s immune cells to begin the healing process and removal of dead and damaged neurons. Immune cells in the brain do not turn off, especially if there are already other imbalances in the body which means inflammation in the brain can continue long after injury.
  9. Dehydration
  10. Hormone or blood sugar imbalances

What are Symptoms of Brain Inflammation?

Brain inflammation is a protective measure that keeps your brain safe from toxicity and infections.  Your brain inflames itself as a way to re-balance, reset and heal.

Unlike an inflamed body part, your brain may not feel physical pain when it’s inflamed. Instead, the brain communicates inflammation in the way it makes you feel.

When the brain is inflamed, it slows down its processing speed which in turn slows down your processing speed and your ability to focus.  Other symptoms of brain inflammation include:

Leaky Gut – If you have an inflamed gut, you likely have an inflamed brain.

Brain Fog – You may experience slow or fuzzy thinking or your thinking and response time might feel laborious or unclear.  Inflammation in the brain slows down firing between neurons, slowing the the overall operation of the brain.

Low Brain Voltage – You may experience limited endurance for focusing or thinking.

TBI’s/Concussions – Physical injuries to the brain can contribute to brain inflammation.

Toxicity – Environmental toxins such as mercury, copper, indoor pollution, chemicals, and pesticides contribute to inflammation.

Depression – Inflammatory immune cells called cytokines hamper brain function and the activity of serotonin, your “happy” brain chemical.

Chronic Infections – Bacterial, viral, or fungal infections trigger the brain’s immune system to respond with inflammation.

Memory Issues – Inflammation destroys neural connections, leading to poor recall.

Hyper-reaction to Fragrances – Brain inflammation causes an overreaction to stimulus, including scents.

Anxiety – Brain inflammation can make you feel anxious or fidgety.

FatigueWhen your brain is inflamed, it can slow you down and make you feel tired.

Irritability or Anger – Brain inflammation can contribute to mood disorders like anger and irritability.

Diminished Athletic Performance Inflammation slows the brain’s communication to your muscles.  Your muscle strength is only as strong as the signal from the brain as every muscle cell is connected to a nerve that is connected to the brain. Muscular strength declines when our brain is not firing optimally.

Neuro Degeneration – Inflammation in the brain damages and destroys brain cells, speeding aging and atrophy of your brain.  This raises your risk for dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other degenerative brain diseases.

Fix Brain Inflammation with Essential Oils

In order to lower the Inflammation in the body, brain inflammation must be addressed.

Topically applied essential oils can play a huge role in helping deactivate inflammation in the brain so it can repair and heal.  This is one of the reasons that Vibrant Blue Oils Brain Balance blends are so popular with practitioners.  As you may know, essential oils are fat soluble and the brain is comprised primarily of fat so essential oils can easily cross the blood brain barrier and support the brain.  Anti Inflammatory™, in particular, supports the anti-inflammation mechanisms of the brain and body.

Anti Inflammatory™ is designed to reduce inflammation and encourage regeneration of damaged or stressed connective tissues that have been chronically inflamed or acutely inflamed.  Apply 2-3 drops along the back of the head – from the back of the neck up midway on the scalp to help anti inflame the brain.
