Black Cumin Seed Oil for Inflammation and Immunity

By Jodi Cohen

As we head into cold and flu season, I wanted to share some compelling research on Black cumin seed oil, also called Black seed oil or Nigella sativa, which has been shown to boost the immune system and calm inflammation.

More specially, Black cumin seed oil has been found help counteract overactive cytokine responses. Cytokines, a special type of protein, regulate the immune system’s activity, but when they’re over-activated they can cause your immune system to attack itself, leading to excess inflammation.

Found in both our Gall Bladder™ and Thymus™  blends, Black cumin seed (Nigella Sativa) is known to aid the immune system and upper-respiratory conditions, helping to kill and expel pathogens.

Black cumin seed essential oil is known to possess antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, immunomodulatory, bronchodilatory, antihistaminic, antitussive, antipyretic and analgesic properties that help to modulate your immune system and inhibit excessive immune responses.

How Black Cumin Seed Oil Supports Immunity

Grown in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, the Nigella Sativa plant contains small black seeds, known as black cumin or black seed that contain the constituent Thymquinone which possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antimicrobial, immunomodulatory and anticoagulant activities.

Research on the Potential Benefits for COVID-19 Prevention and Cure found that “Thymquinone also increases the activity and number of cytokine suppressors, lymphocytes, natural killer cells, and macrophages, and it has demonstrated antiviral potential against a number of viruses, including Epstein-Barr virus, hepatitis C virus, human immunodeficiency virus, and other coronaviruses.”

The research found that Thymquinone “has demonstrated notable antiviral activity against a SARSCoV-2…  Studies have also shown that Thymquinone could potentially inhibit COVID-19 development through binding to the receptor-binding domain on the spike and envelope proteins of SARS-CoV-2, which may hinder virus entry into the host cell and inhibit its ion channel and pore forming activity.

The research highlights Thymquinone’s “inhibitory effect” on the virus, which both diminish viral replication and interfere with virus uptake into the host cell.

Black cumin seed essential oil is also beneficial for the gallbladder and for restoring healthy bile flow, since the chemical constituent stearic acid in cumin seed is an ideal emulsifying agent that binds water and oil.  Several studies have also noted its potential protective capability against numerous chronic diseases and conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, asthma, renal dysfunction and malignancy.

In addition to Thymoquinone, Black Cumin Seed Oil also contains the constituents Thymohydroquinone – a potent natural Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor, which inhibits breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which helps support healthy brain function – and Thymol, known for its powerful antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties.

How to Use Black Cumin Seed Essential Oils

Black Cumin Seed Essential Oil has been found to help regulate your immune system – by defending against harmful cells and supporting the reduction of antibodies in auto-immune challenges, calm inflammation and strengthen your body’s detoxification channels, like your liver and gallbladder to help you filter and eliminate toxins from the body.  It also helps to support healthy lung function, by helping to clear the lungs which helps to alleviate symptoms of colds, flu, asthma and bronchitis.

Our two powerful blends that contain Black Cumin Seed Essential Oil are:

Thymus™

Supporting your thymus can help boost your immune system. Your thymus gland, located in front of the heart, plays an important role in your immune system.  It helps mature infection-fighting white blood cells that are made in your bone marrow.   You can help increase the release of your white blood cells by stimulating your thymus.  Essential oils – like the Thymus™ blend which contains black seed oil and a technique called thymus thumping, gently tapping on the thymus gland by stimulate your thymus to boost your immune system.

To boost your immune system, apply 2-3 drops of Thymus™ on the thymus (on breastbone at third rib) in a clockwise motion for 30 seconds and then stimulate the thymus by gently tapping.  Apply morning and evening and throughout the day as needed.

Gall Bladder™

Your gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ that plays a key role in detoxification it stores and concentrates bile, a yellowish-green fluid helps to carry toxins and old hormones out of the body.  Toxins are foreign substances that turn on the immune system so it is important that they leave the body instead of recirculating. Keeping the gallbladder healthy helps to ensure healthy detoxification.

Read more about the gallbladder HERE and HERE.

Gall Bladder™ helps to improve the health of the gallbladder and viscosity of the bile, allowing for better fat digestion and elimination of toxins and old hormones. To support the optimal flow of bile from the Gall Bladder, apply Vibrant Blue Oils Gall Bladder™ on the right side of the body under the bra under-wire or along and slightly under the right rib cage 2 -3 times daily.
