Every morning, I would wake up to the sound of my son coughing and sneezing. Loudly. So loudly that I could hear it from all the way down the hall in my own bedroom.
It was a horrible way to wake up… to the sound of my baby suffering. It not only broke my heart. It inspired me into action. I wanted to help him.
One morning at 4:30 a.m. I got inspired. In that intuitive, trance like space halfway between dreaming and waking, it occurred to me that ongoing allergy symptoms were often driven by an over-active histamine response. In the same thought, I intuitively knew that essential oils were uniquely beneficial for balancing histamine.
Essential Oils for Allergies
Barely awake, I fumbled down the stairs into my office and formulated the Essential Oils for allergies histamine balance blend to help modulate my son’s histamine response. I felt very guided as I intuitively selected and combined the oils, said a little prayer and walked back upstairs to test the new blend on my poor suffering son.
I could hear him sneezing his little heart out as I walked back up the stairs and into his bedroom. I intuitively applied the blend on the nape of his neck, on his sternum and behind his ears and within a few minutes he had stopped sneezing and fallen restfully back to sleep. I cuddled up next to him and listened as his breathing relaxed and fell into a peaceful rhythm.
Content that he had returned to balance, I returned to my office and started researching the oils I had selected to better understand how it had magically balanced my son’s allergic response.
Balancing Histamine
As you may know, histamine is a chemical compound released by the cells in response to injury, allergic or inflammatory reactions, causing contraction of smooth muscle and dilation of capillaries. Histamine plays a role in immune responses, regulates physiological function in the gut, and acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain.
While the release of histamine is a normal defense mechanism, an exaggerated histamine response can bind to cell receptor sites, causing irritation and chronic inflammation. This suppresses the cells from maturing, being active, and polarizing, which then alters their immune regulation, and causes them to attack the body even when there is not a foreign substance present.
Overactive Histamine Responses
Overactive histamine responses often present as being allergic to and reacting to everything including taste, touch, smell and even things that are not inherently dangerous such as food or pollen.
Inflammation of the nasal passages, sinuses, lungs and eyelids can cause sneezing, runny nose, watery, red, itchy eyes, rashes, breathing troubles such as wheezing, severe coughs, asthma, or hiccups. Inflammation of the small intestine can present as food allergies and sensitivities. Inflammation of the brain presents as fatigue, headaches and brain fog. All of these symptoms are due to differing histamine receptor cells being overactive, which triggers numerous immune system reactions.
Histamine levels are designed to be kept in balance by two enzymes that breaking down excess histamine and prevent allergic reactions. One of these enzymes lives in the lining of our intestines and must be present to maintain balanced histamine levels in the gut. A damaged gut lining can compromise the production and secretion of this enzyme allowing histamine to build up and wreak havoc throughout the body.
Essential Oils to Balancing Histamine Responses
The goal is to balance, not block, the histamine response as histamine performs critical functions in body, contributing to HCL production and neurotransmitter signals.
The essential oils in the Histamine Balance™ blend are uniquely suited to modulate excess histamine excretion, balancing histamine levels and helping to reset the immune response and reduce allergic reactions are decreased. Blue Tansy, in particular, is known for neutralizing histamine and helping to control allergic reactions.
If someone you love is suffering from an overactive histamine response, consider Histamine Balance™ or these other oils to help support immune health.
