Essential Oils for Optimal Brain Function

By Jodi Cohen

A radiant human brain illuminated with beams of light symbolizing intelligence, cognition, and neural activity.

Health begins in the brain.

Digestion begins in the brain. The body’s signals for all hormone release – including hormones for sleep, stress, thyroid and sexual health – all begin in the brain. Essential Oils for brain function can help keep these hormones in check.

Essential Oils for Brain Function

Any attempt to heal the body without considering the health of these signals from the brain can fall short.  The brain needs to trigger the vagal nerve to induce the optimal rest and digest parasympathetic response.  The pineal gland in the brain triggers the release of the sleep hormone melatonin.  The hypothalamus serves as command and control center in the brain for all hormonal messages that are sent and received, including those that impact your adrenal, thyroid and reproductive health.

Vibrant Blue Oils proprietary brain blends – Parasympathetic®, Hypothalamus™ and Circadian Rhythm® – are uniquely powerful healing tools because they address the healing concern at the root of the issue, the brain.

Many of the over the counter and prescription medications designed to heal the brain either sedate or stimulate the brain to certain activity.  As different regions of the brain perform different functions, it is often that very specific regions of the brain, not the entire brain that needs to be either stimulated or sedated.

Unfortunately, when you internally ingest a pill, it impacts the entire brain, not just the specifically targeted area, often resulting in side effects.  Topically applied essential oils, on the other hand, can be very specifically targeted to the exact area of the brain that you wish to either stimulate or sedate.

For example, the Parasympathetic® blend, when applied to the vagal nerve (behind the earlobe on the mastoid bone) before meals will stimulate the parasympathetic rest and digest response that triggers the optimal digestive cascade.

Similarly, the hypothalamus blend when applied above the third eye (on the forehead between the hairline and bridge of the nose) helps to regulate hunger and balance hormonal signaling for endocrine, digestive and nervous systems.

The hypothalamus sends and receives all hormonal messages for the endocrine, stress and digestive systems to the body.  This means it needs to be functioning optimally for the appropriate signals to both be sent and received.  When the hypothalamus is out of balance, it can impact Adrenal Function, Thyroid Function, Hunger impulses, the ability to handle stress and all endocrine Function (including the sexual organs).  The Hypothalamus™ brain blend helps return the hypothalamus to balance for optimal function so the cascade of hormones falls into balance as well.

Finally, the Circadian Rhythm® blend when specifically applied in 4 points around head — Top of the ears on skull (both sides),  Apex of the skull on top of the head and very back of the head (in the middle) —  the triggers the Pineal Gland to secrete the sleep hormone Melatonin.  This helps to modulate the circadian rhythms (sleep-wake cycles) and regulate Endocrine Functions and hormonal signals.

As you look to balance optimal health in the body, consider starting with optimal signaling in the brain.  Topically applied essential oils are an optimal health modality to help stimulate or sedate selected areas of the brain for optimal function.
