Boost Your Immune System with Thymus Oil

By Jodi Cohen

A person with a thyroid gland.

Supporting your thymus can help boost your immune system to keep your body healthy during cold and flu season. Continue reading this blog post to learn about Essential Oils to Boost Your Immune System.

The thymus gland, located in front of the heart, plays an important role in your immune system.  It helps mature infection-fighting white blood cells that are made in your bone marrow.   You can help increase the release of your white blood cells by stimulating your thymus.  Essential oils and a technique called thymus thumping, gently tapping on the thymus gland by stimulate your thymus to boost your immune system.  Thymus stimulation also helps to slow down gland atrophy that occurs after puberty.  It is believed that this atrophy occurs because we have lost the instinct to stimulate your thymus gland more regularly.

The thymus helps regulate the immune system  through the lymphatic system (the body’s defense network) and the endocrine system.  It also houses our sense of self, not-self, self-worth and emotional boundaries with others, which allows us to separate what belongs in the body from what does not belong in the body and protects the body against autoimmunity, which occurs when the immune system turns against itself.  A weak immune system can fail to protect the body and even attack it, mistaking “self” cells for invading pathogens, resulting in autoimmune diseases.

Weak thymus energy makes us believe that something is innately wrong with us, which can manifest as immune issues, such as catching infections easily, or developing problems such as auto-immune disorders (an attack against the self) or cancer (the inability to defend oneself).

Essential Oils to Boost Your Immune System

Supporting the organs of your immune system, like your Thymus gland, may help boost your immune system to help you prevent illness. A weak immune system can present as either over-reactive or under-reactive.

An over-reactive immune system can over-responds to every threat, resulting in symptoms like allergies, asthma, eczema, multiple food sensitivities, or even autoimmune conditions or cancer. Autoimmune diseases, sometimes called inflammatory diseases, can be triggered by an overactive immune system that is out-of-balance. A down-regulated or under-reactive immune system can expose the body to increased susceptibility to infections and disease.  Read More about modulating your immune system HERE.

Natural remedies, like essential oils, allow the immune system to return to balance and function in a coordinated manner.  Essential oils have long been recognized for their immune modulating properties.  Recent research found that an essential oil blend of wild orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary “exhibited significant effects on the levels of protein biomarkers that are critically involved in inflammation, immune modulation, and tissue remodeling processes. The study also found that the essential oils “robustly affected signaling pathways related to inflammation, immune function, and cell cycle control.”  We tested those oils and optimized them even further in our Thymus™ blend.

Boost Your Immune System with Thymus Oil

Thymus™ helps to strengthen the thymus gland for optimal immune support against infections, viruses, bacteria, fungus, parasites, tumors and inflammation.  Thymus™ contains the following combination of organic or wild-crafted essential oils that help stimulate immune function against infections, viruses and bacteria.

Holy Basil:   An excellent nerve tonic, holy basil helps enhance the body’s natural ability to cope with both physical and emotional stress.  Boosts depression, clears the head and relieves intellectual fatigue, which gives the mind added strength and clarity.

Clove Bud: Stimulates circulation to help increase energy and relieve fatigue.  It can also help you boost your mood and relieve memory deficiency.  It can be used to support headaches, fevers, digestive problems and immune/respiratory issues including sore throat, colds, flu, sinusitis, diarrhea, amoebic dysentery, bacterial colitis, cholera and viral hepatitis.

Black Cumin: Aids the immune system and upper respiratory conditions, helping to kill and expel pathogens. Often used for indurations of the abdomen, eyes and liver.

Frankincense:  Strengthens the immune system by proliferating white blood cells and reducing inflammation. Frankincense also contains compounds called sesquiterpenes, which have the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and deliver powerful anti-inflammatory compounds to your brain.

Ginger Root:  Helps stimulate your immune system, ease respiratory infections, reduce swollen glands and support drainage of a runny nose or excess mucus. Good for treatment of colds, flu, fever, congestion, cough, and sore throat.

Hyssop: Invigorates the mind and the nervous system.  Helps support the immune system with antibacterial and antifungal activity against certain trains of pathogenic organisms.

Juniper Berry:  A natural diuretic, Juniper Berry supports lymphatic drainage, helps the liver and kidneys function properly, treats ulcers, urinary infections and other bladder problems.

Nutmeg:  Possesses strong antibacterial properties to help support healing of respiratory issues and infections.

Oregano: The most antiseptic of all essential oils. Called “Nature’s Antibody” for its remedial properties, it helps boost all the systems of the body, particularly the respiratory system making it effective in treatments for chronic bronchitis, colds, whooping cough, pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia, and asthma.

Ravensara: Anti-infectious  properties support the immune system against Influenza, Colds, Bronchitis, Other Respiratory tract Infections, Cold Sores, Shingles, Joint and Muscular Pain.  Aids swollen gland infections and useful in convalescence. Also creates dramatic results in herpes and shingles.

Rosemary: Antiseptic properties combined with immune system and respiratory support. Rosemary is a very detoxifying essential oil in the sense that it encourages the cleansing of the excretory ducts and organs which drains the hepatobiliary system (the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts). This process strengthens natural immunity. It also stimulates blood flow and circulation and is used as a general skin tonic.

Blue Tansy A muscle relaxant that helps treat bruises, sprains, cramps, rheumatism, arthritis, and muscular rheumatism.  Stimulates the thymus gland so it can help with stimulating your immune system to kick into gear.

To boost your immune system, apply 2-3 drops of Thymus™ on the thymus (on breastbone at third rib) in a clockwise motion for 30 seconds and then stimulate the thymus by gently tapping.  Apply morning and evening and throughout the day as needed.
