I don’t know about you, but I feel like I spend a lot of time, money and energy trying to keep myself and my family healthy. These Essential Oil health hacks can help you feel better with less work.


Essential Oil Health Hacks

That translates into cooking or preparing three healthy meals every day (and cleaning up afterward), organizing and cheerleading while my kids eat their vegetables and take their supplements, running to the organic super market (which is not a short jaunt) often to replenish dwindling supplies, and trying to ensure that everyone gets to sleep at a reasonable hour (including me!) It can be exhausting. And stressful.

Which kind of defeats the whole purpose, right?

I often find myself wishing that I had more time, energy and money to dedicate to my family’s health. While I do still buy the occasional lottery ticket (one can always hope, right?), I have also gotten really good at creating “Health Hacks” to make up for those short comings. Health Hacks are my own little cheats to help support my family’s health which don’t require massive time, energy or a lot of money. I spent a lot of my own time, money and energy doing an insane amount of experiential research and I have to be honest. It was pretty frustrating. A lot of things that I tried didn’t really work or made a small difference, but not enough to merit the investment of my time, energy and money.

That is, until I started working with Essential Oils. Drawing on my background as a nutritional therapy practitioner and certified herbalist, I created proprietary Essential Oil blends that serve as “Health Hacks” to help balance the body, returning it to a state of homeostatic balance that allows it to heal.

For the first time ever, I am sharing my personal favorite Health Hacks that I use on a daily basis to keep myself and my family healthy!


Health Hack #1 – Eat in the Parasympathetic State

How you eat is as important as what you eat. This is because even the healthiest food cannot be properly digested if you consume it under stress. Our bodies need to be in the parasympathetic “rest and digest” state in order for digestion to be turned on. When the body is under stress, sympathetic “fight or flight” nervous system kicks the body into survival mode. The heart rate increases, blood pressure increases, respiration quickens, and blood flow is routed away from the internal organs of digestion in the midsection toward external muscles so we can flee faster. The digestive system essentially shuts down. The on/off switch between the sympathetic and parasympathetic state is cranial nerve #10, known as the vagus nerve. It begins in the brainstem and travels down the side of the neck (where it is most accessible from through the skin) along the gastrointestinal tract, sending signals to the nerves that control every digestive organ.

Health Hack #1: To stimulate the optimal “rest and digest” parasympathetic state, apply the Vibrant Blue Parasympathetic® blend to the vagus nerve (behind the earlobe on the mastoid bone) before meals.


Health Hack #2 –Heal the Gut

Healing the gut can reduce systemic inflammation that is often the underlying issue for most health conditions, including auto immunity, food intolerances, anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD. As you may know, the cells lining the small intestine are connected by semi-permeable tight junctions that serve as important gatekeepers. They block the undigested food, bacteria, fungus, yeast, parasites and other toxins while selectively assimilating and absorbing the vital nutrients the body needs. Gut inflammation from food allergies, stress or infections can compromise these tight junctions, leading to increased permeability and allowing harmful pathogens or undigested food to “leak”, into the body, triggering an immune response where these foods are tagged as “foreign invaders”. This prevents vital nutrients from being properly digested, absorbed and assimilated and can lead to food allergies/intolerances. Healthy gut flora and mucosal lining are critical for absorbing nutrients from food and neutralizing toxic substances. When digestion is impaired, it is challenging to assimilate healing nutrients through ingestion, but topically applied essential oils to can help heal and regenerate the mucosal lining of small intestine.

Health Hack #3 – Reduce Stress

Health Hack #4 – Improve Sleep

It is during restful sleep that the body recharges and heals. Our sleep/wake cycle, known as our circadian rhythms, are regulated by the sleep hormone, melatonin. The body should naturally release melatonin in the evening when it gets dark. But chronic and prolonged stress can interfere with our natural sleep cycles. You see, the stress hormone, cortisol, has an antagonistic relationship with the sleep hormone melatonin, so any night-time anxiety triggers the release of excess cortisol at night, driving down melatonin and making it difficult to fall asleep.

Health Hack #4: If you struggle to fall asleep due to stress or racing thoughts, apply Circadian Rhythm®, to the top of the head, back of the head and on the scalp above the ears.


Health Hack #5 – Support Detoxification

Most of our detoxification abilities are over taxed, meaning that toxins are not eliminated and can recirculate through the body affecting the body’s ability to function and presenting like symptoms such as fatigue, depression, anxiety, allergies, asthma, joint pain, skin problems, headaches or the inability to concentrate. Inadequate detoxification can also contribute to the onset of degenerative diseases, including auto immune conditions. Supporting the organs of detoxification can help prevent and heal from many health challenges. The liver plays a huge role in the detoxification effort, filtering toxins from blood and neutralizing the toxins in preparation for elimination. When we detoxify, we force a potentially overworked liver to work even harder. Similarly, when we embark on a digestive repair effort that releases extra toxins (like yeast die off) or a detox cleanse we force the liver to work that much harder.
