5 Essential Oils to Prevent Diabetes by Reducing Toxicity

By Jodi Cohen

A woman eating a salad.

Toxins, and our inability to release these toxins from our body, are our key contributors to rising levels of diabetes.  I recently heard Toxin Solution author Dr. Joseph Pizzorno explain that toxic overload, more than sugar levels in the diet or lack of physical exercise, make you more susceptible to diabetes.  And I wanted to share 5 Essential Oils to Prevent Diabetes by helping you reduce toxicity.

Pizzorno explained that certain blood markers for poor liver function and impaired detoxification correlate with diabetes.  Toxins are known to block insulin receptor sites, making you more susceptible to diabetes.  In addition, when your organs of detoxification and drainage pathways are overwhelmed, you are more vulnerable to toxin overload, which then overwhelms the liver and impedes its ability to function optimally to support blood sugar regulation.

In his book The Toxin Solution, Pizzorno correlates a 12-fold increased risk of diabetes among individuals with high toxic load and impaired detoxification capabilities.

For example, people with the highest level of pesticides, found in non-organic fruits and vegetables, had twelve times the incidence of diabetes diagnosis compared to people with no levels of these chemicals in their bodies.   These high levels can be attributed to both exposure to toxins and compromised ability to detoxify.

As you may know, the liver is one of the key organs of blood sugar balance, along with the adrenals and the pancreas.  The liver acts as a reservoir for blood sugar, helping to mobilize glucose out of the body’s reserves and store excess glucose to ensure consistent and stable blood sugar levels.

When the liver is overwhelmed from toxins, it cannot function optimally to support blood sugar balance.  By helping to support the liver and the other organs of the detoxification so that the liver does not need to work as hard to detoxify the body, you helping the liver return to balance so that it can also contribute to blood sugar regulation.

5 Essential Oils to Prevent Diabetes by Reducing Toxicity

Essential oils can be used to support the detoxification pathways and allow toxins to exit the body. If the detoxification pathways are blocked or stagnant, mobilized toxins will likely be reabsorbed.  Essential oils can play an especially powerful role in helping to open these detoxification pathways as they are extremely gentle and can be topically applied, thus avoiding any additional burden on a potentially compromised digestive system.

1.  Liver™

The liver is a key organ in blood sugar regulation, mobilizing or storing glucose to ensure consistent and stable blood sugar levels. It is also a key organ in detoxification, filtering toxins from blood and neutralizing the toxins in preparation for elimination. The liver needs the energy and vitality to keep up with the increased toxic burden.  To support the liver, apply 2 – 3 drops of Liver™ over the liver (under the right breast) 2- 3 times daily.

2.  Gall Bladder™

The gallbladder works in tandem with the liver, storing, releasing, and concentrating bile, which helps carry toxins out of the body. When our bile becomes too viscous, it doesn’t flow as well and toxins don’t move out of the system and often get reabsorbed.  To support the optimal flow of bile and allow toxins to flow out of the body, apply 2- 3 drops of Gall Bladder™ over the gall bladder (right side of the body, underneath the ribs.  If you lean forward, it is easier to apply under the ribs). It is also important to take binders, supplements that ‘bind’ to toxins to help move them out of the body such as clay or chlorella.  You can learn more about binders here.

3.  Kidneys

The kidneys also work in tandem with the liver, filtering blood and removing water-soluble waste products. When the liver is overwhelmed, the kidneys help to take up the slack, filtering excess toxins and potentially leading to kidney damage.  To manage the excess stress on the kidneys, it is important to both support the kidneys with essential oils and trace minerals and to take binders to ensure that toxins are bound and eliminated through the digestive channel so they don’t recirculate to the kidneys.  To help support the kidneys for optimal function, apply 2- 3  drops of Kidney Support™ over the kidneys (lower back), back of neck, or around the outside of earlobes.

4.  Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system acts as a pre-filter for the liver, filtering toxins to prevent clogging and liver overload.   Unfortunately, the lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump and lymphatic fluid can accumulate and stagnate.  The more you can help the  lymph fluid flow, the more quickly you can move toxins out of the body.  This is why saunas, dry brushing, and jumping on a trampoline are recommended.  To support lymphatic drainage and movement, generously apply Lymph™ around the sides of the neck, under the left clavicle, in the arm pits, and the groin.  For more tips to improve lymphatic function, read this article.

5.  Skin

The skin is our largest organ and a major elimination pathway.   Our sweat glands act as a key channel helping to support any toxic overflow from the liver or kidneys.  For example, skin reactions like acne, rosacea, psoriasis or rashes are often an indication that the liver and kidneys are processing more toxins than the body can handle, so your pores will start to pitch in to sweat things out.  My favorite tool for eliminating toxins via sweat therapy is a detox bath with 2 cups of Epsom salt, 1 cup of baking soda and a few drops of Parasympathetic® oil.

Recent research corroborates the benefits of sweating, finding toxins like heavy metals in sweat post exercise.  Fat soluble toxins, like BPA, can also escape via in the sweat as well.  Supporting the detoxification pathway via the skin can lessen the burden on other detox organs like the liver.
