3 Essential Oils to Release Negative Emotions

By Jodi Cohen

“When the house is on fire, you don’t have time to mow the lawn.”

That quote is courtesy of my dear friend and talented practitioner Andrea Dahlman of Redeeming Nutrition.  She uses it to explain how the body responds to stress and the process it needs to go through to heal. Release Emotions

I have had the luxury of three weeks to myself while my children were at overnight camp.  I decided to use the time to really tune in to what my mind and body needed.  I ate a much healthier diet that my kids probably would not have enjoyed.  I also felt highly motivated to deep clean the areas of the house that feel stressful – the pantry, the attic and the basement.

I have to say, they felt stressful for good reason.  These areas contained a lot of objects that stirred up emotions that I had not been able to process.  When the house was on fire, I couldn’t mow the lawn.  So I stored them in these less accessible areas of home so I would not have to look at them every day.  Even though they were not in my direct line of vision, they were still there.  In my house.  Emitting energy. Reminding me of the painful situations in the past that I did not want to deal with.   Or perhaps I just didn’t know how to deal with it.  So I did nothing.

Cleaning it out was really hard.  Not so much physically, but emotionally.  Certain areas were so emotionally charged that I had to take frequent breaks, either walking my dog or deeply inhaling our Liver Support blend designed to help release and clear emotions that no longer serve.  I cried a lot.  Wailed actually.

Touching all these objects that had been in my life during my darkest hours brought up all that pain that I didn’t know how to process.  So I stored it.  For later.  When I could handle it better.  When the house was no longer on fire and I had the energy and the stamina to mow the lawn.

I don’t think I could have done it without the oils.  I know intellectually that the only way out is through but facing these memories triggered my deepest fears, somewhat akin to Luke Skywalker entering the dark cave knowing that Darth Vadar awaited him.

Essential oils are kind of amazing in that you often don’t realize how powerful they are until you really need them.  And they really deliver.  When everything is great and you feel healthy and pain free, it’s challenging to notice a big shift from the oils.  But when you are walking through hell and need to keep moving, they can be your best friends.

Essential Oils to Release Negative Emotions

You can breathe in the oils and release all past hurts and disappointment as you exhale.  I have read that inhaling an oil through the nose, then forcefully exhaling through the mouth allows the body to best release emotions that no longer serve.

Liver Support™ allows us to release anger and suppressed negative memories that are often stored on very deep cellular level. Just place the bottle under your nose and breathe deeply, fully inhaling the oil for 3 – 7 breaths.  It helps you breathe into and work through the emotion.  You can also apply it around the ankles as this is often an area where we hold resistance to moving forward in life and block the ability to receive joy and pleasure.  Start at the back of the ankle and apply under the ankle bone around to the front and back under the other ankle bone, all while allowing yourself to release challenging emotions.

Lung Support™ allows for the gentle release of emotional grief that so often accompanies growth.  In order to grow, we have to leave behind old behavior and thought patterns and sometimes individuals, places and possessions.  There is often a deep sense of loss and grief associated with the process of letting go.  Lung Support helps us release our grief so often attached to negative experiences.  You can inhale the oil the oil through the nose, letting the oxygen flow deeply into the lungs, then exhale or apply directly over the lungs.

Small Intestine Support™ helps support positive boundaries and confidence to assist in bringing a sense of peace to our lives.  When you are struggling with negative emotions, it can be uplifting and help release and clear any residual negative emotions.  I find it best to apply around the ears for emotion related issues.  You can start on the bottom of the ear at the earlobes and gentle massage upward along the exterior of the ear, hitting many of the major reflexology points.  This article and chart show specific points on the ears for specific issues.

I hope these3 essential oils help release negative emotions and work through and emotions that no longer serve you on your path to vibrant health.  Please feel free to share this article with anyone in your life who might benefit.  Please feel free to leave a comment below on any tools you may use.
